Crochetme copyright policies question

Categorized As:

Hi,

I've been reading around this site about copyrights, but I can't find an answer to my question. Can I post here patterns of characters I didn't create?

I have some Futurama (and other cartoons) patterns that I'd like to share. I created the patterns, but not eh characters. What's crochetme's policy about this?

I know in other sites this is a big no-no.

Thanks

You're welcome to post photos of your creations, but we do prohibit the violation of trademark and copyright on CrochetMe.com. Intellectual property rights are confusing and exist to a great extent in a mass of grey area. As the characters from shows, books, and movies are owned by their creators, we abide the view that projects made in their likenesses are derivative works, and it might therefore be seen by the creators as a violation of their rights to post patterns for how to make them. Just showing what you've made, however, should be just fine.

Ok, copyrights are very, VERY! important. This I already understand (I'm an artist and print designer). What I do not know is this: what if I post a pattern that is my own; created prior to my being online, and someone else has posted a pattern that is similar? I've tried to look to be sure, but I know I can miss things.

Please help.
