Crochet in a Nascar Themed Billiards Guys Room?

Categorized As:

My dad's birthday is coming up, and I want to surprise him with something totally cool for his brand new "man cave." LOL He has worked really hard to make a guys room just the way he likes.. with a billiards table and a Thomas Kinkade painting of the Daytona 500.

He has two sets of chairs and small, high tables in there. But, no coasters. I thought I could make some coasters for the room and put the numbers of his favorite drivers on them. Any tips for how to put the numbers on? Should I just crochet them in using a different color? I've never done anything like that.

Any other ideas on something I could make for this room? I just thought it was lacking in color, in the room. Aside from the Thomas Kinkade painting and the stained glass light above the pool table, there is really no color.. the felt on the table is black, the chairs are black, the walls are a grayish color. I thought the coasters would add a little splash of color.. and anything else that would add just a touch of color to the room without feminizing it would be cool LOL. It's his own little corner of the house where he got to pick out everything without wifeys help hahaha.

My first idea, before I read about lack of color, was to use the black and white checkered flag pattern for something - coasters, afghan, cushions. You could make colored numbers and attach them, but it might be too lumpy for a coaster.

Round coasters that look like wheels?

I'm trying to imagine a Kinkade painting of the Daytona 500. I keep thinking of his flowery cottages dangerously close to little streams that might flood. No flooding allowed in TK's world?

LOL Pauline. Thanks for all of those suggestions. I like the checkered flag pattern. Maybe I'll make him a little checkered flag hand towel in case some of those clumsy friends of his spills something down there. I figured out how to do the numbers on the billiards balls.. but, now with the wheels coasters idea.. I've got a decision to make LOL.

The Kinkade painting of the Daytona 500 was kind of shocking to me, too LOL. But, it actually takes a really loud and dirty sport and makes it look pretty LOL

For the coasters, you could do a simple single crochet round or square coaster in the solid color and then cross-stitch the car number on it.
