Crochet Cord

Categorized As:

Hi there!

I am in need of a strong, durable, and slim cord that I can crochet. It will be used as a drawstring that will be tied into a bow. Have any idea how I can crochet a cord like this? I have seen people use the basic chain for a drawstring, but I am looking for something with more durability.

I am open to any suggestions!

Here are a few:

Slip stictch back the length of the chain.

Chain 3 or 4, then sc into the first chain so it makes a ring, sc into the second chain, sc into the third chain, sc into the first sc, sc into the second sc, etc. until it's long enough. You are working a helix. It's a lot like a knitter's idiot cord. Look up a better explanation in Tips and Tricks and titled Idiot Cord, I think.

Ch 2, sc in first ch, turn the sc from left to right and sc under two vertical threads on its side, turn, sc into two vertical threads on the side, etc. I've heard this called a Crayfish Cord, but haven't found it on the internet. The now defunct magazines "Magic Crochet" and "Decorative Crochet" had it now and then.

Pauline3:

Thank you very much for the cord instructions. The 2nd suggestion you gave looks like it will work perfectly with my project!

But I am always on the look out for more ideas, if anyone else has a few cord tips please feel free to share!
