does anyone know where I can find a free pattern for the above or one that isn't too expensive? Thanks

FreePatterns.com has one that is a hooded cable sweater. The pattern is versatile in size-from 6 months to 6 years, all with a change of hook and yarn.
From the main page, just select Crochet for the technique, and type cable into the keyword box.

What do you mean yarn doesn't count as a medical expense? Crocheting is theraputic and helps me keep my sanity!
