almost done
I just have to weave in those ends and block it. I used fingering weight cotton on this little freeform top with the help of an old (1943) pamphlet from The Spool Cotton Company called Laces and Edgings book #199. I used pattern #8949 for inspiration and now I am just winging it with chain mesh, trying it on as I go to see where I need to add a motif or bring it in or out a bit. I did some repeats of part of the original pattern to make it flare out a bit at the bottom and to tie the whole thing together. I am having way too much fun with this!!

It looks beautiful! I love the blue. I still have to pretty much have a pattern for everything I do. I just don't have the vision to make something like that out of thin air. What a talent you have!
I love this "TOP" and my fave color too. I not skilled enough to try this although if I had a good pattern I would attempt it..
mad for crochet!
Thanks for the nice comments! I think you two are selling yourselves short. Sometimes I think freeforming is easier than following a pattern and figuring out all that gauge stuff! Lace is very forgiving and hooking motifs together with mesh is a lot of fun. Myra Wood's book Creative Crochet Lace inspired me a lot and she has a lot of helpful hints to get you going.
This does look great! I did not think much of it in the beginning , but now that I have seen your progress and it really does look beautiful and the colour is great too!
I'm not that sure that I could produce the same result if I tried your pattern or even had a go at freeform crochet!
I will post a photo of anything that I do attempt in the future. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks for your honest reply. That first picture I posted was hideous!LOL I am pretty happy with it now and it was a lot of fun to make.
Absolutely beautiful!! You did a fantastic job and I love the color....
Hey Sarah,
nice work! Yes, I also think the color is beautiful.
I have tried some flowers and leaves for my current project, however, I think that it's not the right embellishment for it. Have to take pictures, urgently ... ;-)
