The Crochet Me 2012 Amigurumi Calendar Projects

Amigurumi, crocheted or knitted stuffed dolls, use basic stitches and simple shapes, making them ideal for both beginning and experienced crocheters, and since most are small, they are excellent stash-busters. Amigurumi are perfect for children, but you will find just as many adults who boast their own collection.

For our Crochet Me 2012 calendar, we asked you to submit original amigurumi designs. We were overwhelmed by your enthusiastic response. Thirteen amigurumi were chosen to model in fantastical locales, and each little creature has its own distinct personality and unique story to tell.

We compiled the patterns for all 13 of the calendar amigurumi into one downloadable ebook, which you can purchase in the Crochet Me Shop. We will also be posting each month's pattern for free for the first 7 days of it's month. The pattern will be available only from 11:00 a.m. central time on the 1st through 11:00 a.m. central time on the 8th of each month.

Join us on the forums and post pictures of your amigurumi in the gallery. You can also download desktop wallpaper of each month's amigurumi for your computer. To download the wall paper, click on the appropriate size below. When the image opens, right click on the photo and either save to your computer or choose "Set as Desktop."

Ayo, which means happiness in Nigerian, spreads warmth and laughter with his cute waving arm and invitingly curly tail. With ears like coconut shells, large tapioca eyes, and a sweet banana resting atop his head, Ayo is the perfect monkey companion on any blue Monday.

Kiki grew up in a zoo after she was found sitting on a swing in a playground all by herself. No one knows how she got there, but no one doubts her playful nature! Entertaining guests at the zoo is a tough job, but Kiki has discovered just the trick to challenge herself while exciting zoogoers. She cleverly balances bananas on her forehead, a skill she learned from watching the seals balance balls on their nose at a show her zookeeper took her to.

Designer: Joanna Ma first started crocheting at age eight for a class elective in Chinese School and was told she had no talent. So she gave up. Seventeen years later, she picked up crochet again just for fun, made an R2D2 amigurumi for her brother's birthday out of scraps lying around the house, and her creative juices haven't stopped since!
