Read - It Does a Body Good

Categorized As:

I published the new issue last week, then seemingly fell off the planet. Really what I did was fall into our kitchen. A kitchen renovation is disruptive and stressful under all circumstances, and especially so when you work from home. I'm giddy to report that as I write this (from Mr. Crochet me's garage-cum-office because my basement office is directly under the kitchen), a very kind man is installing our new cabinets. Up to this point, we've (read: mostly my husband) done all of the work ourselves. Demolishing was tres cool, and loud. Painting was fun, with the help of a good friend. Sanding the floors was... interesting, and loud. The arrival of new appliances over the weekend was like we won the lottery. And today, our kitchen will begin to look like new. I can't wait. (Also, I can't wait because I'm a hermit when I work, and I'm like a hypersensitive roommate to all of the Mr.'s quirks while I'm out here.)

I've managed, though, to put together our spring book reviews. There's lots of books, yo! Go read some.

i am sooooooo friggin jealous! dont even tell me your appliances are stainless steel and/or your cooktop is gas. i will lose it:) what colour are the cabinets??????? we need pics!

I won't tell you about the stainless or the gas, but I will say I'm beside myself anticipating all the baking in the convection oven. I've documented the whole reno in photos.

A quirk I have that many don't understand: I can't stand cake. Weird, eh? I love to look at them, but never eat them. And because of that, I never bake them, because I don't know when they're good or bad. :)

The paint is B.M. "timothy straw." It's brownish in some light, and apple green in other light. And against the cabinetry (that's half installed at this point), it makes me very happy.

you say quirk, i say insanity:P just teasing....i could not live without cake. timothy straw is really nice, i remember looking at the paint chip. lovely!

You guys should be so proud of yourselves. The kitchen is looking amazing! How in the world do you find time to renovate and work so hard? Congratulations! I am very jealous as well, b/c we are just starting our remodel.

Thanks, Robyn! We haven't skied since Christmas, and we pretty much spend all weekend time in the kitchen. :) Good luck with your reno!

Somehow in 1 paragraph you managed to capture every nuance, as I experience it anyway. I'm laughing--right down to your being "hypersensitive to the Mr.'s quirks"! We're having the room off the kitchen remodeled and it's that kind of interesting, loud, and exciting fun, but also disorienting, distracting, creativity-interrupting, as you also describe. The room where I design, write, and crochet adjoins this room too, yikes.

Ack! We're totally in the same boat. :)
