The International Herald Tribune has an articulate take on why crochet is so popular.

The mingling of the past and the future has always been a part of fashion. But the return of crochet this season is another indicator that the world of fashion has started to look beyond logos for clothing that will better represent individuality and unique style.

HI KIM!I admire the content and format of your online magazine. The above mentioned article really makes me envious of people who can crochet such trendy and beautiful pieces. I'm so frustrated when I search the internet for free patterns and find mostly such items as our grandmothers would have made. I am from the Philippines and there's not much variety of materials to work with and even if we do find it, imported craft items, books and magazines are very expensive. I am really so frustrated when I look at online patterns of "Adriafil", "Garnstudio", and "Mani di Fata". They do have a lot of fashionable free patterns, but using yarn that I might not be able to see in my lifetime. And also, its frustrating especially at garnstudio because they have the patterns in Norwegian and other foreign language. With Adriafil, they do have patterns in english, though, written for a specific yarn and needle. The only easily available material here is mercerized crochet cotton which is worked with 1.00 - 2.00mm. needle. Anyway, what I'm saying is that for the less creative amongst us in designing, its quite frustrating to create your own crochet fashion item. If I am lucky, do you think I could participate in some yarn/pattern exchange? Thanks so much for reading my comment!
