Amigurumi

If you're into Japanese crafts, you've probably at least seen photos of Japanese amigurumi books (if you haven't, check these out). They're beautiful, and the dolls are adorable. Amigurumi means "knitted or crocheted doll" in Japanese. Here's everything you wanted to know about amigurumi but couldn't find out because you don't read Japanese:

Tips and tricks about how to make some fab dolls - Amigurumi Double Ring
A photo tutorial on how to start working in the round without making a hole (similar to the Magic Adjustable Ring, but different) - Assembling Amigurumi
A photo tutorial on attaching the head and body of amigurumi dolls. - Amigurumi Dude Pattern

Crochet me designers went nuts making their own dudes, all from the same pattern. Want to share photos of your own Amigurumi Dudes? Join the Flickr group.

Hi everyone...
New here so let me know if I mess up at all. Love this site. I just found amigurumi. I'm trying out a free pattern I found now and this is just so much fun. I went looking for patterns and am totally in love with the Japanese books. Problem is...I don't read Japanese. Is there a way to use the books without knowing how to read Japanese? The detailing on those little critters is just impecable.
Thanks,
Laura
I just made the cutest lion from the basic pattern. I love these because they are so easy to change. Plus, any pattern that says in the directions "gauge isn't important" is a pattern for me! These are just too darn cute and I'm making an elephant soon. Something tells me my apartment will be full of these little guys pretty soon.
I have been eagerly checking for the new issue for weeks, and last night I happened to attempt my first Amigurumi! (A big head with an eye, and tail...not quite a full creature yet). Thank you for making them the subject of this issue!
Wow! Thanks for adding Amigurumi to the spring issue. I truly enjoyed looking at the gallery as well. The kids and I will have fun creating our own creatures. Thanks CrochetMe. Ya'll rock!
Been looking forward to what Amigurumi you come up with. I have made a blue monkey-robot with suckers on his feet. I love the way they can evolve as you make them. Its quite liberating really knowing that the plan is.....theres no plan!! Yup this Japanese fun has got to England now although nobody I talk to have a clue what I am on about. Brilliant fun more please!!!
Wow, thanks for putting this up! I've been wanting to create some new buddies for myself, and this is exactly what I needed!
Thank you so much for the fantastic feature on Amigurumi. It's so helpful! If I haven't read this article I don't know how long it's going to take to learn to make my first Amigurumi. Thanks again!!
How do u make these amigurumi dolls. Looks hard. I'd love 2 know how. Ne ideas?
Just click through the links listed above!
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I just finished an amigurumi Yoda doll (complete with light saber) for my husband and he adores it. Now he wants Darth Vader, an Ewok, Jabba the Hut...you get the idea. Thanks again, sisters in stitching!
YODA?! Oh, PLEEAASSE tell me how you made Yoda. With a gift like that for my husband, I could get 4 or 5 trips to the yarn store with no complaining!! LOL Really, please let me know. Pictures would be great, but instructions would help. Does anyone know about sizing them up a bit? How about larger hooks and double yarn thicknesses? Hmmm...sounds like a challenge I'm up for. Thanks for all the other patterns. My daughter's getting the Chihuahua in royal blue and white.

These are so cute I'm going to make them for all my friends! They are going to be so pleased!
I am fairly new to amineko but have really fallen for them. I have been crocheting for nearly 40 years. I started with knitting worsted but have experimented and finally opted for sport yarn and a 3.5 mm hook...makes a really cute cat and very managable if you have arthritis like I do. I made one with eyes instead of the embroidery...I cover her eyes with her paws at night...the light...ooooh the light..hehe....have fun kiddos...mammasan
thanks so much for the Dude pattern. I've made Hello Kitty, Doraemon and Keropi adapted from it.
