Just a Little Privacy Wrap

Introduction

Just a Little Privacy WrapThis wrap was created specifically with breastfeeding mothers in mind. Created with 100% silk chenille, it is both airy and beautiful. The wider edges of the wrap provide enough coverage to give babies privacy while eating in public, and make the wrap easy and comfortable for moms to wear. It's surprisingly warm and would make a lovely shoulder wrap for mothers-to-be for those windy spring days.

I purchased the yarn for this wrap from Ebay originally, but any sport weight chenille yarn would do. The wrap was kool-aid dyed with blue and cherry after it was finished. I used a hook larger than recommended to create the lacy look.

Materials List

  • Approximately 16oz. of sport weight chenille yarn.
  • 7mm hook (Size K hook is slightly smaller but should be acceptable)

Notes

It is assumed that each row begins with either a chain 1 for sc rows, ch 2 for hdc rows and ch 3 for dc rows. Personally I reduce the number to 1 chain for sc and hdc rows and 2 ch for dc rows. For my work, it keeps the edges neater and doesn't leave a large gap between the beginning stitch and rest of the work.

US pattern notations used
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
st = stitch

The Pattern

Begin the middle section

ch 56

Row 1: sc in second chain from hook, sc across (55 stitches)

Row 2: hdc across (55 hdc)

Row 3: dc, *dc, ch1 skip next stitch, repeat from * to last two stitches, 2dc

Row 4: hdc in next dc, *hdc in next dc, hdc in 1 ch space, repeat until last two stitches and hdc in last two dc.

Rows 5 & 6: hdc across

Repeat rows 3-6 15 times

Repeat rows 3 & 4

Break thread.

Work the end sections

You will repeat this once on each end of the middle section.

Row 1: *sc1, sc2 in next st, repeat from star until last st, sc, turn (81 st)

Row 2: dc in each st across.

Repeat row 2 for approximately 15 inches.

End row: hdc across. Finish off and weave in end.

It's gorgeous! I haven't breastfed in 2 years but I would make it just because I love it!

This pattern is just the thing that I am looking for. As a mom-to-be I was looking for something that I could make for when I need to breastfeed in public and at family events since my baby boy is due around the beginning of the busy holiday season. Thank you so much for this pattern.....keep up the fantastic work....
